This weekend, the international “Galeb Trophy” G1/E1-category tournament took place, with Taekwondo Club Obeliks among the participants. The first day was dedicated to the senior categories, where Stefan Takov once again made us proud by winning the bronze medal in the -74 kg category. After receiving a bye in the first round, he recorded two victories against competitors from Egypt and Bulgaria, before being stopped by an opponent from China in the semi-finals. His semi-final finish secured him the bronze medal and earned him valuable new points towards the Olympic ranking!

The second day featured the younger age categories, with Obeliks represented by two junior athletes – Frida Kaličanin and Zorana Veljković. After receiving a bye in the first round, Frida went on to defeat opponents from Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing three consecutive victories and winning the gold medal in the -55 kg category. Zorana comfortably won her opening match against an opponent from Russia, but was narrowly defeated by a fellow Serbian competitor in the semi-finals, earning herself the bronze medal. With these results, our girls have earned valuable ranking points in the race for a place on the national team and are well on their way to securing their spots in the junior national squad!

A huge well done to everyone – you were fantastic! Onwards and upwards! 🩵
