As one of the tournament holders, Takov achieved the title of European Champion after four extremely demanding fights. At the very start of the competition, he was faced with a very difficult match against the representative of Bulgaria, in which he showed his fighting spirit and quality when it was most needed. In the second round, he defeated a competitor from Poland and secured a place in the semifinals, where he was met by the representative of Croatia, a former world champion.
